Volunteering : Why It Is Important?

This is a bit of a tricky topic in my mind. Volunteering can mean a lot things to a lot of different people. What does it mean to me? Well volunteering means I get a chance to do something to help the community even if it is as small as manning a topic for a picnic my dad’s work put on or to something as big as volunteering at the zoo. I have been in this line of “work” since I was a kid. There was something liberating about being able to do things and not worry about getting paid. You are giving YOUR free time to help others.

The reason why I wanted to make this post is because summer is rolling up and that means people will need volunteers. I recently moved down to Florida for the summer which left me a bit stumped on what to do. I decided to reach out to a friend of mine who graduated from the same university I hope to attend. She managed to get me in touch with someone for this upcoming weekend. It helps if you have connections, but you can simply do a google search to find volunteer options in your area.

What can you do? Well there is loads of different kinds of volunteer options. You can do beach/river clean ups. People throw their trash away without a second thought. It takes people like you and me to fix that. Another option is volunteer at a used book store specifically for one that has a program attached to it. You could volunteer at the soup kitchen to help feed the homeless. The options are endless so try to find out what you have in your area.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post. I was trying to reach out of my comfort zone with this one. Feel free to leave comments if you have any questions!

    1. You are welcome sweetie! I told my mom that I was determined to volunteer at least once this summer. I have a few places lined up that I’m going to contact. I hope you get the chance to volunteer again soon!

  1. I would also recommend using VolunteerMatch to find more organizations looking for volunteers because it is so diverse and it is easy to find something that might appeal.
Also, public libraries usually need volunteers, if you are like me and can’t be outside for more than 10 minutes before burning!
