I wanted SO badly to like this book because it was from the personal TBP I am doing with a group of friends. I have this thing where I can’t read people’s favorite books because I feel like if I don’t like it I’ll hurt their feelings. Okay so this book starts with a male perspective which is fine and dandy. I did NOT realize that the main character was actually a female because once the prologue ended the perspective switched to exclusively first person. I thought the main character was a male the entire time due to the prologue so that was a bit of a twist. I have extremely mixed feelings about this book for a lot of reasons. Some parts feel too middle grade (though the book is supposed to be young adult) and other parts felt too adult.
I think the author was trying too hard to make it work. The medical lingo in the novel made me cringe just a bit. I come from a medical family so I can understand how hard it is to fully understand it. There was some parts where the author kind of butchered things to make it seem funny. The beginning of the novel was SO confusing. I kid you not I literally complained to everyone about the book. I didn’t know who the narrator was. I spent a lot of it very confused.
Overall, I can’t say I recommend this book. It might be your cup of tea. I just couldn’t get into it for the life of me. I noticed in the reviews on goodreads that it’s the kind of book you will either love or hate.
